AT&T Byron Nelson

The field this week does not compare to that of The Players, but there is still plenty of quality in here and a fair share of players who will eye this an opportunity to win one under the radar.

This is an event that always produces super-low scores around the Four Seasons resort course and inevitably boils down to who can make the most putts. Given that it’s a Par 70, it’s worth taking a look at par 4 scoring – no winner this century has finished outside the top 3 in par 4 scoring in this tournament, which actually isn’t all that surprising!

Recent winners have been available at pretty long odds, so there may be a suggestion that we should be looking a little further down the list, but we are going with an obvious Australian trend (both this season and in this event) and those that may be a little happier controlling their ball in the Texas wind.

Matt Kuchar 20/1 – Stake £10 e/w Potential return £270
Kuch went AWOL for a while back there, but has re-emerged recently and put in a stellar performance last week at The Players to finish in a tie for 3rd. Of course the greens are going to be a little more pedestrian here, but Kuchar is a guy who generally gets on a run of form and he is certainly due another win soon. Scores pretty high in our Par 4 scoring stat too.

Marc Leishman 33/1 – Stake £10 e/w Potential return £432.50
The Aussie has come of age this last year and this possibly represents his best opportunity for a win. He’s clearly got a liking for the course as is seen in his 2 top 3 finishes. He’s a strong driver of the ball and probably the fact that he’s Australian just tips it in his favour. Decent odds for a solid performer

Brooks Koepka 33/1 – Stake £10 e/w Potential return £432.50
Did pretty well on his first look at the course last year and has become one of the standout players on tour. He may not have been on top form of late, but he will feel comfortable here as many of the holes favour hi preferred left to right shape. Tied 16th last year should be improved upon this week.

Ryan Palmer 45/1 – Stake £10 e/w Potential return £582.50
Two top 10’s and a playoff defeat in his last 5 starts at Four Seasons, coupled with some tidy recent form. Doesn’t mind going deep, so keep an eye out this week for RP.

Bryson Dechambeau 60/1 – Stake £5 e/w Potential return £385
The “Golf Scientist’s” odds have drifted in the past few weeks after his incredible pro debut 4th place finish at Harbour Town. He will have relished having a week off last week to have a rest after a particularly hectic year. We’re certainly interested in getting odds like this on him, now that his novelty has kind of worn off. He’ll certainly be motivated to take another big leap toward the $750,000 that will secure his card for next year.

Steven Bowditch 350/1 – Stake £5 e/w Potential return £2197.50
Sorry, but he’s the defending champion! He may have had an up and down year, but sometimes players can get a real shot in the arm coming back to a venue they’ve won before. If he just gets that feeling back……..
